Victoria Settlement to celebrate the potato

Aug. 14, 2013, Alberta – The Victoria Settlement Provincial Historic Site in Alberta will celebrate the potato on Sunday, Aug. 18.

Starting at 1 p.m., a series of potato-themed competitions will take place, including a race on Alberta’s only potato racing track, a mashed potato eating contest, potato peeling and carving competitions, potato bowling, a potato-on-spoon race and a potato slinging event. Prizes will be awarded in all categories.

Admission is $8 for families (two adults and their children ages 7-17), $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1.50 for youth (age 7 to 17). Children six and under have free admission.

Victoria Settlement is located 10 kilometres south of Smoky Lake on Secondary Highway 855 and six kilometres east on the historic Victoria Trail.
