Potato storage is up in Canada year-over-year by 12.5 per cent.

The Government of Canada’s monthly release was issued earlier this month and covered potato storage as of April 1. Total Canadian Potato Storage Holdings totalled 52,393 million cwt, representing a 12.5 per cent increase year-over-year. This is despite decreases in P.E.I., New Brunswick and Quebec. New Brunswick, in particular, showed a reduction year-over-year of more than 22 per cent. The Maritimes, in total, were down 17.3 per cent.

Growth was shown from Ontario and to the west. British Columbia showed the most significant percentage growth at 89.58 per cent. Alberta posted the highest total weight at 15,555 million cwt, a more-than-50 per cent increase year-over-year.
