Seed Potato Tuber Quality Management Program update

Dec. 5, 2013, Canada – As of April 1, 2014, all seed growers in Canada must become licensed and registered by CFIA for the Seed Potato Tuber Quality Management Program (SPTQMP). This will be for all domestic movement of potatoes that leave your farm, whether it is moving within Alberta, or other destinations within Canada. For movement to the United States, please contact your local CFIA office regarding the current requirements. 

An update by CFIA highlighting the changes was presented to the seed growers at recent Potato Growers of Alberta Conference and annual general meeting. Contact your local CFIA office for more information. For seed growers that have not been part of the SPTQMP, an information session will be planned in the new year; please watch for information regarding this upcoming meeting.
