Cavendish Farms packaging facility in O'Leary to close
Cavendish Farms announced July 30, 2018 it will be closing its fresh produce packaging facility in O'Leary, P.E.I., due to a shortage of potatoes. The closure will affect 40 employees.
Drier weather has resulted in lower yields requiring Cavendish to import potatoes from other provinces to make up for the shortage. The company says it will focus on its frozen potato processing business and is set to open up a frozen processing plant in Lethbridge, Alta. in the fall of 2019. | READ MORE
