Canadian potato production increased in 2015

Jan. 22, 2015, Canadad – In 2015, Canada's potato production was 105.4 million hundredweight (4.7 million tonnes), up 4.7 per cent from 2014, according to new data from Statistics Canada.

Manitoba accounted for 50.6 per cent of this increase, while Quebec represented 37.4 per cent. Production was 1.8 per cent above the average level recorded from 2001 to 2015.

Harvested area edged up 0.3 per cent from 2014.

In 2015, Prince Edward Island represented 23.6 per cent of total potato production and Manitoba 20.5 per cent.
