Lockwood Manufacturing, a company that produces potato planters, windrowers, harvesters and handling equipment, launched the Mobile Tank. The Mobile Tank is a new potato handling unit that will come to market in 2020 and is designed to complement Lockwood’s VACS Mobile and VACS-8.

The Mobile Tank is completely contained on a customized semi-trailer and fully hydraulically powered by two wet kits and incorporates a touch screen user interface.

According to Lockwood, this new piece of equipment provides a controlled flow of product, allowing growers to maximize efficiency during harvest. โ€œThis unit exceeds both industry standards and customer expectations with regards to transport and setup time reduction,โ€ said Michael Nilson, chief engineer and business unit director for Lockwood Manufacturing.

The Mobile Tank incorporates a holding unit on a customized semi-trailer. The unit uses a telescoping elevator that extends down from the front of the trailer to a position under the stinger trailer discharge. Lockwood offers a stinger trailer with up to three truck stingers to unload potatoes from the truck and deliver to the tank. The stinger trailer is entirely powered hydraulically through quick connect fitting located at front of semi-trailer.

In addition, Lockwood says the set-up time is minimal. โ€œThe Mobile Tank can be moved from location to location at posted highway speeds and because of the telescoping elevator can be setup and operational in minutes,โ€ said Nilson.

Lockwood designed the Mobile Tank unloading belt to have varying speed control, manually adjustable by the operator to customize the cleaning equipment requirements. The tank discharge also utilizes a baffle to minimize pile roll and surging and this maintains a consistent flow into the cleaning device elevator. The no internal baffles means minimizing product bruising.
