Barcelona variety promising for Ontario
Barcelona, a yellow-fleshed variety with smooth skin, was the highest yielding variety in a non-irrigated trial just northwest of Hamilton, Ont., according to Eugenia Banks' latest potato update.

Barcelona looks promising for Ontario, Eugenia Banks says after observing high yields for the variety in trials. A number of varieties performed well at the trial conducted at Brenn-B Farms, but the highest yielding was Barcelona at 550 cwt. Last year Barcelona also yielded well in the Waterdown and Shelburne areas.
On Sept. 15, Banks says maturity is medium late and Barcelona is moderately susceptible to scab similar to the Colomba variety. Despite a hot dry summer, there was little second growth observed in the Barcelona potatoes.
