Agriculture and food employers and workers can access hiring, job search and farm safety resources through the province's new Agriculture Job Connector.

The Government of Alberta launched a website to help people find essential agriculture work opportunities in Alberta and for essential agriculture businesses to find workers.

Agriculture and food employers and workers can access hiring, job search and farm safety resources through the province’s new Agriculture Job Connector at alberta.ca/AgJobConnector.

Agriculture employers are encouraged to post available jobs on the connector so the positions can be filled and the province can keep the food supply chain operational.

The provincial government says the tool will help agricultural employers who are currently facing uncertainties about the availability of foreign workers and the Albertans out of work due to COVID-19. Some farms in Alberta rely on the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) to hire seasonal workers, but with travel restrictions and delays due to COVID-19, other options are being explored too.

“With so many Albertans now out of work due to no fault of their own from COVID-19, there is an opportunity for the needs of both employers in the agriculture sector and Albertans wanting work to connect,” the government’s statement read.

“There are great job opportunities on Alberta farms and ranches. There is definitely a greater appreciation for Alberta’s agriculture sector, and this new website will help Albertans find an exciting new job in this essential service,” said Devin Dreeshen, provincial minister of agriculture and forestry, in a released statement.

The Ontario government also launched a new web portal to connect workers with employers looking to fill positions in the agri-food sector. The web portal, accessible through Ontario.ca/AgFoodJobs, provides access to information on job opportunities and training resources in all parts of Ontario’s food supply chain – from grocery retailers to bakeries and cheese processing plants to opportunities on farms.
